As a current or former Stanford student, it’s important for you to understand how and where your personal information appears, and what options you have for changing it, restricting access to it, and requesting a review of your own student records. 

These resources will provide you with a detailed understanding and guide you through any updates you want to make now or in the future. 

Personal Information Updates

You may update your personal information at any time through self-service on Axess or by requesting staff assistance. Personal information includes your address, emergency contact, preferred name, legal name, marital status, date of birth, and more.

Annual Student Information Update

Each year, you’ll be required to update and confirm your student information as required by federal law. You will experience an enrollment hold on your student account until you complete this update, which should take you no more than five minutes to do.

Directory and Privacy Settings

Understand what information is automatically included in Stanford’s student directory and how you can change your privacy settings to restrict certain information from showing up in it. Directory information includes your name, email address, degrees awarded, terms of attendance, athletic participation, and more.
