Advanced Placement (AP) Credit Chart
Effective for Undergraduates Matriculating 2022-23
You can apply a maximum of 45 quarter units of advanced testing credit or coursework transfer credit toward your undergraduate degree. If you are considering applying for credit for AP exams, you should be aware of the following:
- Subjects not listed on this chart are not eligible for AP credit.
- Stanford may remove credit for AP work from your record if your subsequent Stanford coursework duplicates AP credit course content.
- If you take a Stanford course below the level of the placement course, Stanford removes the corresponding AP units from your student record. Courses taken below the level of placement are considered duplicating courses.
- You may not receive duplicate unit credit for AP and IB exams in the same discipline. Stanford will remove AP credit from your student's record if you earn duplicate credit through the IB exam in the same discipline.
- Stanford allows up to 10 units of credit per discipline for some of the AP exams.
- You may not be awarded credit for more than one exam in the same subject type (excluding language and physics subject areas).
- If you do not see AP credit on your record after Autumn quarter of your first year and are expecting to, please submit a help request.

1A score of 4 or 5 on this test fulfills the Language Requirement. A score of 5 is required to receive 10 quarter units of credit. 2Students are eligible for Physics C (both) or Physics 1 & 2, however not a combination of the two. 3Students must have taken both Physics 1 & 2 to receive credit along with scoring a minimum of 4 on each exam. The standard rules apply such that students cannot receive credit for multiple exams taken within the same subject. The best score and or unit rate is applied to the transcript for Physics. If a student wants to have a certain Physics exam reflected on the transcript, the student should contact the Student Services Center. |
