How to remove your Civic Engagement hold

Main content start

In January 2019, the Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU) passed a binding resolution to implement a new enrollment hold on students' Axess accounts. This Civic Engagement hold aims at encouraging students to register to vote. The Civic Engagement hold is placed on student Axess accounts in August each year. Students should complete the Civic Engagement process to remove the hold prior to autumn quarter enrollment.

You can remove your Civic Engagement hold within a few minutes, by completing the following steps:

Begin by navigating to your My Action Items section in Axess and locate the Civic Engagement item.

Step 1: Open the activity guide and read through the introduction page.

Step 2: At this stage you will be prompted to register to vote. Note that voter registration is not required. Whether or not you decide to register, click "Confirm" once you've made your registration decision.

Step 3: Complete the final Civic Engagement Agreement and click "Accept." The "Next" option will not appear until you've accepted the agreement.

Step 4: Click "Submit" to finish the activity guide. Your hold will be automatically removed after you submit.
